Custom textures in photoshop

Today we made a few custom textures in photoshop just using a few quick steps.

To make this wood texture we simply chose a light and dark golden wood colour and went into filter > render > fibers. Then after playing around with the dials until we got a result we liked we went into filter > liquify to add some knots. Finally I adjusted the contrast on mine by going into image > adjustments > brightness/contrast to make it stand out more as the colours looked a bit flat.

For stone we first started with choosing a light and a dark grey (mine had hint's of red in) and going into filter > render > clouds.
We then went into channels and made a new layer at the bottom, we then rendered clouds on it again.
We then turned this new channel layer off and selected RGB. Then after going back into layers we went into filter > render > lighting effects and set the light to direction and texture to alpha 1, then we just played around with the settings to get a rocky look.
Finally I upped the contrast again to give it more depth.

For steel we started with just rendering some noise (filter > noise > add noise).
Then we went into filter > blur > motion blur and set it quite high to get this brushed steel effect.
Finally we simply cropped out the ends.

First we chose a dark and light water colour, I chose turquoises. Then we rendered clouds.
We then rendered clouds again on a new layer. Then we went into filter > sketch > chrome on the top layer and set kept the default.

Finally we played around with the layer mode to get the colour through while keeping the ripple look.

I decided I liked the look of vivid light setting best.
